The village is completely supplied with water and electricity, and also with telephone lines.
Nearby the village can be seen the well preserved remains of a Muslim monastery from the 16th
century AD, probably inheritor of the high clerical school founded in 1378
by Ak Yazili Baba – Islamic philosopher, scientist and humanist. Ak Baba was
a very famous and respected (by both Muslims and Christians) Islamic holy man
who preached equality of the people and religions. After his death pilgrims
from all over the Islamic world visited his mausoleum built on this place. The
remarkable construction still can be seen but however damaged by the time.
The complex has two buildings – a mausoleum, where is the tomb of Ak Yazili Baba
and an inn for a cost free shelter of pilgrims. The mausoleum and the inn are
constructed of stone blocks. The mausoleum has anteroom and tomb-room with dome.
The building inside is 7-angles figure with a diameter of 11 m and height of 15 m.
Geometrical figures are painted on the ceiling while on the walls there are frescoes
in Oriental style. In the middle of the tomb-room is situated the tomb of the saint
Ak Baba. About 50 m from the mausoleum is located the inn. The monastery was the second
large Islamic monastery on the Balkans after ones in Istanbul. Besides the religious
complex the village of Obrochishte impresses with its nature beauty. Nearby the village,
along the wide valley flows the clear river of Batova. The view reveals steep
slopes overgrown with a dense wood, red-colored rocks and clear cool springs and
green meadows. And only the birds’ chorus breaks the silence in this paradise.
